were turning into a nightmare for many drivers in the 1960s, especially
on the more powerful big-block muscle cars. So, manufacturers offered
more small-block alternatives. The Oldsmobile Rallye 350 was one of the
best but was available only for 1970. It was based on the Cutlass and
featured a double wishbones up front end and a live axle rear on coil
springs and located by upper and lower control arms. However, front and
rear anti-roll bars, heavy-duty springs and shocks meant good handling
and more balance with less weight up front. And the 350 ci (5.7-litre)
produced plenty of power and impressive torque for its displacement. All
the Rallyes came in Sebring Yellow and featured the functional cold-air
intake hood from the W-30 model. For 1971 the Rallye was dropped and power
on the small-block Cutlass was reduced to 260 bhp (194 kW).
