| | LINCOLN CONTINENTAL (1961) CAR HISTORYCar review on LINCOLN CONTINENTALLincoln worked
hard to make their 1961 Continental one of the best ever, and it on praise
for its high construction standards. It had a new, streamlined body with
slab sides and a flush-fitting grille, plus 'clap-hand' doors which opened
away from each other for excellent access. It was advanced, and because
of the emphasis on quality, had no concessions towards weight-saving.
The huge chassis was on a 123-inch (3.12 m) wheelbase and ran self-adjusting
brakes, along with coil springs and leaf springs front and rear. It was
inside where the innovations were, with power-assisted features such as
the windows, door locks, hydraulic wipers, steering, six-way seats, plus
there was air-conditioning and cruise control. The car was very subtle
in its styling, too, compared to what was available just to previous years.
New, small lights and conservative use of chrome made it a favourite for
stately owners.
