LINCOLN CONTINENTAL MK IV CARUSED CARS HISTORY > CAR MODEL > LINCOLN CONTINENTAL MK IV |
|
| | LINCOLN CONTINENTAL MK IV (1959) CAR HISTORYCar review on LINCOLN CONTINENTAL MK IVEverything about
the Mk IV was big. It was one of the largest cars ever to come out of
Detroit, and had the biggest-capacity engine ever available in a passenger
car up until the 1960s. Like the Skyline which had arrived just two years
before, the Lincoln used a retractable hardtop which neatly stowed away
in the trunk, but when up, the rear screen raked inwards and offered an
opening window for rear-passenger ventilation. Given the ostentatious
time, the Mk IV was one of the least fussy cars from Detroit, but it was
immensely stylish with its wide, canted headlight grille and work-of-art
fenders both ends. Suspension was conventional for the time, with wishbones
and leaf springs front and rear, while the all cast-iron engine thumped
out enormous torque to make the Mk IV a great cruiser and, significantly,
quicker than the Cadillacs.
