| | FORD MUSTANG GT/CS (1968) CAR HISTORYCar review on FORD MUSTANG GT/CSThe Mustang was
extremely popular during its first few years of production, but competition
from other manufacturers saw a drop in sales for 1968, so Ford released
a number of limited-edition models to rectify the situation. The GT/SC
was one, and it stood for Grand Turismo California Special. As a GT, it
got heavy-duty springs and shocks, dual exhaust with special double protruding
tips (for this year only) and a thicker front anti-roll bar. The CA part
of the deal added special side scoops, Shelby-style rear lights, a plain
grille and special emblems all over. Under the hood of this special was
the mighty 390 ci (6.3-litre) big-block, which had huge torque throughout
the rev range. It could easily accelerate the car to 14-second quarter-mile
times in stock form, bnt it was most impressive on the street once the
Goodyear Polyglas bias-ply tyres had found grip.
