| | FORD FALCON RANCHERO (1965) CAR HISTORYCar review on FORD FALCON RANCHEROFord introduced
the Ranchero as 'America's lowest price pick-up' in 1960, priced at just
$1,882. It was based on the Falcon platform and power came from a 144
ci (2.6-litre), 90 bhp (67 kW) engine, though its saloon counterpart was
fitted with a V8 and hence the ranchero could swallow one with ease. This
made them popular with modifiers, who liked the lightweight, no-frills
approach that could get them very quick cars for relatively little money.
This example uses a 302 ci (4.9-litre) V8 tuned with aftermarket intake,
heads and camshaft from Edelbrock, plus a free-flowing dual exhaust. As
the Ranchero shares its underpinnings with the Mustang, the owner of this
car has used 1969 Mustang front disc s and traction bars. The rims are
aftermarket alloys in 8 x 15 (203 x 381 mm) and 10 x l5-inch (251 x 381mm)
with BF Goodrich tyres, giving improved handling and better traction.
