production in 1990, and although called a Dodge, was actually a rebodied
Mitsubishi 3000GT and, as such, a brilliant driver's machine. It was even
put together on Mitsubishi's assembly line in Japan. An identical chassis,
engine, gearbox and suspension was shared between the two. MacPherson
struts all around with trailing arms at the rear and anti-roll bars at
each end kept handling sharp. The iron engine had extra ribs for rigidity,
while the top end featured alloy dual cam 24v heads. In R/T guise it managed
222 bhp (166 kW) but the most powerful was the R/T Turbo, which had twin
Mitsubishi TD04 turbos with intercoolers for lOpsi boost and 300 bhp (224
kW). The hi-tech gadgetry included four-wheel drive and four-wheel steer,
front spoiler lowering at 50 mph (80 km/h) to re-direct airflow around
the car, and a rear spoiler changing its angle to increase downforce at
speed.
