brand new Rams from Dodge came along in 1994 and made the outgoing model
seem well past it sell-by date. The new Ram's styling was very bold but
made it easily distinguishable on the street. The raised hood and low-down
headlights was a popular style, and became the look for Dodge's later
Dakota SUV. The top Ram model used a cast-iron version of the Dodge Viper's
V10 engine, and this made it the biggest motor ever in a production pick-up,
something which Dodge proudly advertised. The powerplant was designed
to be a torquey low rpm unit, running sequential fuel injection and 8.6:1
compression. Underneath, a strong ladder-type chassis was separate to
the body and the suspension comprised front double wishbones, a rear live
axle rear on leaf springs, all basic but functional and rugged, with optional
4WD.
