Camaros, but during 1969 also turned his hand to the Chevelle, the result
being an incredible performer on the street. He replaced the 375 bhp (280
kW) 390 ci (6.6-litre) big-block engine with a 427 ci (7.2-litre) Rat
motor. To cope with the new-found performance, the car was fitted with
disc brakes as standard, plus a Muncie four-speed close-ratio manual,
or GM TH400 if buyers preferred an auto. At the rear end the car came
with a strengthened GM 12-bolt live axle with 4.10:1 gearing as standard
for the best possible acceleration. The Chevelle was kitted out with uprated
suspension on the coil spring rear and independent wishbone front. Externally
the cars were identified with 'Yenko SC' (Super Car) logos and black stripes,
but they were rare on the street, as just 99 were built in 1969, being
replaced by the Yenko Chevelle SS454 in 1970.
