after the first Hurst Olds, an anniversary collaboration model was debuted.
A total of 3,000 were produced and each used a tuned 307 ci (5.03-litre)
small-block V8, though performance was a long way from the muscle cars
available first time around. The cars were based on the mid-sized Cutlass,
and though somewhat smaller than the first cars, retained the front-engined
rear-drive format. Upgrades to the suspension included thicker anti-roll
bars, stiffer springs and shocks, quicker ratio steering, shorter gearing
and 7 x 15-inch (178 x 381 mm) wheels. The emphasis was more on handling
than power; the small-block was tuned with Deico electronic ignition,
a Rochester carb and low restriction exhaust. Power went from 140 bhp
(104 kW) to 180 bhp (134 kW). Typically Hurst was the shifter; the triple
Lightning Rods meant first, second, and third gears could be selected
manually.
