25 years old in 1978, and to celebrate a limited edition Silver Anniversary
model was produced. This car was also chosen to pace the 62nd Indianapolis
and more than 6,000 replica cars were built and sold through select dealers.
While the styling was all new, the chassis was carried over but the new
car got the FE7 Gymkhana package which included heavy-duty front and rear
shocks, fatter front and rear anti-roll bars, and higher rated springs.
Front and rear discs were power assisted and all the chassis upgrades
gave the Corvette tremendous grip and handling. Standard fitment was the
L82 high-performance 350 ci (5,735 cc), with greater power than in other
'Vettes thanks to high-lift camshaft, special heads with bigger valves,
and forged pistons. Induction comprised a four-barrel carb and dual snorkel
air cleaner, while the dual exhaust was larger, for more flow.
