through all its generations has always been a tuner's dream. A lightweight
bodyshell, powerful V8 and (from the late 1960s) fully independent suspension,
means all the right ingredients are there in stock form. As the car went
into the 1990s, it increasingly became high-tech, but so did the aftermarket
with it, hence instead of a carburettor or ignition upgrade, the engines
of the generation-four cars got chipped instead, meaning their engine
management was improved for more performance. This example has received
not just an engine chip, but Chevy's own Performance Handling Package
and a set of 1996 Corvette 17-inch (432 mm) alloys. An upgraded exhaust
releases more power and makes this Corvette into a more finely tuned driver's
car which can do the quarter-mile in low-13-second times and pull 0.9
lateral g. The bodywork has a subtle, but effective, trunk spoiler.
