| | CHEVROLET CORVETTE (1982) CAR HISTORYCar review on CHEVROLET CORVETTEBy 1982 the Corvette
was at the end of its third-generation guise which had started back in
the late 1960s. Despite tweaks over time and a mild facelift with moulded
fenders in 1980, a redesign was well overdue, but Chevrolet engineers
wanted this 'Vette to go out with a bang so they produced the 'Collector
Edition'. It came with silver paint and clot, silver leather door trim,
a lift-np rear window, bronze T-tops, plus tasteful finned aluminium wheels
measuring 8 x 15 inches (203 x 381mm) and fitted with 255/60 Goodyear
Eagle tyres. The only engine available was at least very good, featuring
Cross Fire fuel injection and computer-controlled engine management for
great power, plus over 20 mpg (7.08 km/!)) at steady highway speeds. The
Corvette handled like a true sportscar thanks to full independent suspension,
but inside was the most civilized ride yet in the model.
