restyled for 1968, becoming shorter and sportier, yet retaining its muscular
status. While it may never have been as popular as the Camaro, it used
a similar coupe shape and therefore had the necessary wide haunches suitable
for the Pro Street treatment. This meant the biggest tyres out back, and
here the owner has fitted Mickey Thompson racing slicks with over 3 ft
(0.91 m) of contact patch across their width. At the front are the complete
opposite skinny rims and tyres for minimum weight and thus the best weight
transfer on to the rear treads. Horsepower is what it's all about in Pro
Street, and this mainly strip-racing car has a massive big-block engine
which is aided by the nitrous oxide injection for an extra 500 bhp (373
kW) on top of the standard 832 bhp (620 kW). A Lenco clutchless transmission
makes gear-shifting as fast, as the five levers can be pulled back.
