The 1987-1993 Allante was certainly no ordinary Cadillac. For a start, it was styled by Italian deign house Pininfarina, and while it used a modified Eldorado platform, the all-start suspension was much tweaked in order to make the car feel more European. Sales were slow for the first few years, and so GM made changes to try and improve the situation, including more power and active suspension, but the most significant model came in 1993 with the fitting of the incredible 32v Northstar V8 in the front-wheel drive configuration. This engine was so advanced it could run for 100,000 miles (160,000 km) without servicing. It worked well in conjunction with a four-speed automatic which was also computer-managed and could retard the eugine's timing slightly before each gear change to smooth out the shifts. Vented discs all around and 16-inch (406 mm) wheels ensured great handling too.
