Javelin wasn't as small nor as sharp looking as its previous incarnation,
with the range of V8s available, it could still be made to perform. The
new car was bigger than the previous model which meant four seats instead
of two, and rode on a 1-inch (25 mm) longer wheelbase. The 'Go Package'
gave it heavy-duty suspension, power front disc brakes, a cowl induction
set-up and 7x15-inch (178 x 381mm) rims with Goodyear tyres. The AMX was
the high-performance version of the Javelin so had the option of either
a 360 ci (5,899 cc) or 401 ci (6,571 cc) V8. the top model producing 335
bhp (250 kW) and 360 lb ft (487 Nm) torque. Javelins came with a 3-speed
manual transmission, but a 4-speed was optional and recommended for the
bigger engines. A Shift Command automatic option was available, buyers
choosing between floor or column shift.
